Color Hunt Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 2, 2026
Color Hunt ("we", "our", "us") is a photo and color game that assigns you a color, helps you find it in the world with your camera, and turns what you find into a collage.
This Privacy Policy explains what data Color Hunt collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
1) Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Color Hunt mobile application on iOS and Android, published by Adem Beno / Beno Studio.
2) The Short Version
The photos you take while hunting never leave your phone. Only a finished collage is uploaded, and only when you choose to back it up, submit it to a group event, or share it. We do not track you, we do not show ads, and we do not sell data to anyone.
3) What Stays On Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers:
- Raw hunt photos: every photo you capture or import while hunting, stored in the app's private storage.
- Hunt drafts: in-progress collages, their layout, the photos in each cell, and how you have framed them, stored in a local database.
- Color-match results: the match and coverage values calculated for each photo. All color analysis runs on your device; no image is sent anywhere to be analysed.
- Feed history: which shared collages you have already seen, so the Inspire feed does not repeat itself.
- App settings and cached images.
If you take a photo in the app it may also be saved to your device's photo library, which is your own storage, not ours.
4) Data We Collect
To provide the shared and social parts of Color Hunt, we collect the following categories of data:
- Account data: your name, email address, and user identifier provided by your sign-in provider (Apple or Google) when you create an account.
- Profile data: the display name you choose, a generated avatar color, and the hunt preferences you pick during onboarding.
- Collage images: the finished collage images you choose to back up, submit to a group event, or share to the Inspire feed. These are rendered images, not your original photos.
- Group and event data: the groups you belong to, invite codes, events you join, the color drawn for you in an event, and submission timestamps.
- Reactions and saves: the ♥ and ✦ reactions you give, and the collages you save from the Inspire feed.
- Subscription status: whether Color Hunt Plus is active on your account, and when the current period ends. Payment details are handled entirely by Apple or Google; we never see your card or billing information.
- Diagnostics: crash reports and technical error data, used to fix problems.
5) How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect only to:
- authenticate your account and keep it secure,
- sync your profile, backed-up collages and subscription status across devices signed in to the same account,
- run groups and events — assigning colors, tracking who has joined, and revealing collages when an event closes,
- show the Inspire feed and your saved collages,
- respond to support requests and questions you send us,
- maintain and improve the reliability of the service.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating Color Hunt. We do not sell your data.
6) Who Can See What
Visibility is always driven by a choice you make:
- Private by default. A collage you back up is visible only to you.
- Group events. A collage you submit to an event becomes visible to the members of that group when the event is revealed — not before, and not to anyone outside the group. Groups are private and joined only by invite code.
- Inspire. A collage you share to Inspire becomes visible to all signed-in Color Hunt users, together with the color you were hunting. You can turn sharing off at any time; doing so removes it from the feed and from every other user's saved list.
- Website and social media. Only if you separately enable the "feature my collages" setting do we display collages you have shared to Inspire on Color Hunt's website or social accounts. Attribution is by first name or omitted entirely, at your choice, and we never publish your email address or account identifier. Turning the setting off removes them.
- Your profile. Other members of a group you join can see your display name, avatar color, and whether you have Plus. They cannot see your email address.
7) Third-Party Services
Color Hunt uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication (sign-in with Apple or Google), Firestore (profiles, groups, events, reactions), Cloud Storage (collage images), Cloud Functions (server-side logic such as event reveals and account deletion), Remote Config (palette and weekly-color delivery), and Crashlytics (crash reporting). For Firebase's privacy practices, see firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, and the App Store / StoreKit for subscription purchases and validation.
- Google Sign-In: used when you choose to sign in with a Google account.
We do not use advertising SDKs, third-party analytics brokers, or any cross-app tracking. No App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown because we do not track you across apps or websites.
8) Camera and Photo Library Permissions
Color Hunt asks for the following device permissions, each used for exactly one purpose:
- Camera: to show the viewfinder and its live color-match meter, and to capture hunt photos. The camera is active only while a hunt screen is open. Frames are analysed on-device and are never transmitted or recorded.
- Photo library (read): only when you choose to add an existing photo to a collage. We receive only the photo you pick.
- Photo library (add): to save photos you capture, and collages you export, to your own camera roll.
You can revoke any of these permissions in your device settings at any time.
9) Where Your Data Is Stored
Account data, group and event data are stored in Google Cloud Firestore in the europe-west (eur3) multi-region, and our server-side functions run in europe-west1. Collage images are stored in Google Cloud Storage within the same project. Google may process data in other locations as part of operating its infrastructure; see Firebase's privacy documentation above.
10) Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
When you delete your account from within the app, your profile, your uploaded collage images, your group memberships and your reactions are permanently deleted from our servers. This action cannot be undone. Content stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
11) Children
Color Hunt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Where local law sets a higher minimum age for consenting to online services, that age applies instead. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact us and we will delete the account and its data.
12) Sharing and Community Content
Group hunts are private, invite-only spaces — only people you share your invite code with can join. The Inspire feed is the one place your content becomes visible to the wider Color Hunt community, and it is entirely opt-in: nothing is shared unless you choose to share it, and you can revoke sharing for any collage at any time, which removes it everywhere, including from other users' saved lists.
If you come across content you believe violates our Terms of Use, contact us at the email below and we will look into it.
13) Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), authenticated access to all stored images, and server-side access rules that prevent one user from reading another user's private data. No system can guarantee absolute security.
14) Your Rights
You can exercise the following rights at any time:
- Delete your account and all data: open Color Hunt → Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your data from our servers.
- Stop sharing: turn off "Share to Inspire" on any collage, and the "feature my collages" setting, at any time.
- Access, correction, portability, or objection requests: contact us at the email below.
Depending on your jurisdiction, additional rights (such as under the GDPR or CCPA) may apply. Contact us to exercise them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
15) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the effective date above. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
